Module 1: Skills

The Geography curriculum includes a broad strand of “Geographical concepts and skills”. This is further divided into sub-strands of Place, space and interconnection and Data and information.

The specific elements to be achieved in each sub-strand increase in complexity from Levels 7 and 8 to Levels 9 and 10 as does the Geographical knowledge covered.

This module on Geography Skills addresses a range of elements in the Geographical data and information component of the Geography curriculum. It presents a description and explanation of various aspects of Geography skills. It provides suggestions for further reading to gain more information on the relevant skills.

Self-assessment tasks with suggested answers are included. Some of the tasks will require access to an atlas. Other tasks are based on the data provided in the module. You will also need a Login for the Jacaranda Plus Skillbuilders which you will receive when enrolling for this module.

The formal assessment task requires teachers to apply their knowledge about geographic skills in designing a learning and teaching plan.
